Emergency crews were called at around 12:15 p.m. Monday, June 24, after a single-engine Piper PA-28 plane made an emergency landing on Fire Island’s Atlantique Beach.

Two people were on board and there were no reports of injuries, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

David New, who witnessed the unexpected landing from roughly 50 feet away told CBS News the plane was wobbling as it came in before the nose hit the sand and the aircraft flipped straight up.

The plane is registered to a flight school in Nassau County, according to the outlet.

A preliminary accident report from the FAA is expected to be released on Tuesday, June 25.
